[Winona Online Democracy]
Perhaps the notes from our last steering committee meeting(6/8) will be better read. I apologize for their lateness, I've been swamped lately and was gone for 3 days so I didn't get out in their usual timely fashioned- but they were completed yesterday morning. Remember we are all volunteers in this noble experiment called Winona Online Democracy.
A Few clarifications.
1) WOD has always been a loosely structured group-- the steering committee is who shows up- all subscribers are invited. I personally was at another civic meeting with Steve Schild about 2 weeks prior to 6/8 and asked him if he'd like to join us to learn from his findings. So Jerome, I hope that answers your initial question.
2) Being the most senior member of WOD(being in on the chance meeting with Steve Clift in Dec of 1999 in Minneapolis), I have learned a lot since this Schild issue unfolded. We had great moderators lst with Steve Kranz and then with Kathy Seifert and Sharon Ropes. I don't think any of us, until this disclosure, have appreciated the extent of work they do in attempting to maintain the civility that predominates in WOD. At our last steering committee meeting, those that participate in other list servs, gave high marks to our tone.
3) Kathy has offered her rationale. Those were the rules in effect at the time. I'd invite you to our next steering committee meeting in August to consider if we want to change any procedures.
4) Reflect on our goal at our Web site www.winonaolinedemocracy.org or in notes of 6/8 meeting. This experience has redoubled my interest in the importance of this goal. I hope we can enlist more Winonans and elected officials in this effort.
