First on traffic, an observation...if Huff Street is going to be used as a
detour, even for a short time, the left turn lane onto Huff off southbound
61 needs to be lengthened...if it's not you'll see the kind of stacking that
occurs at 61/43 sometimes.

Now to annexation...I simply like the phrase "orderly annexation." As areas
develop, or are intended for development, I want to see city water and
sewer...simple as that. This is a fragile karst geology in Winona...I don't
like septics in this environment. And as development continues, the danger
to private wells increases, as well. Clark's Lane is an extreme example of
what can happen to a private water supply in a developed area.

I am in no way against the concept of home rule, as it were, but it makes no
sense to me that Goodview is not a part of Winona. It makes no sense to me
that Wilson township land, as it is developed, would not be annexed to the
city in the process. We can't afford this duplication of government
services, and it does not serve us well.

This mean spirited attack on the mayor, most recently in The Post, is
ludicrous. Jerry can recuse himself from these discussions with ease, if he
were to choose, as it would not alter the end result. But I would caution
those who call for the mayor's withdrawal from this issue that he is a
reasoned and respectful person, and if he felt an individual was being
wronged would likely be among his or her staunchest allies.
