[Winona Online Democracy]
Kathy Seifert has brought up a number of good suggestions, resources, and clarifications for keeping WOD discourse civil. I am reminded of something I heard years ago - that the U.S. Senate's rules prohibit a member from questioning the motives of another member*. If we adhere to something similar here then we can question each other's facts, words, conclusions, etc., but not their intelligence, sanity, caring, morals, upbringing, state of mind, etc.Another tactic I have employed numerous times when I get heated about an issue is to sleep on it. I have written posts to WOD and letters to the editor with lots of passion, then I put it away and come back to it the next day. If it seems over the top (and it often does) then I can change it and send in something more the point I really wanted to make.Phil Carlson, Minneapolis* Although the Vice-President's recent retort to a Senator seems to be quite a lapse in civility from the President of the Senate himself._______________________________________________ This message was posted to Winona Online Democracy All messages must be signed by the senders actual name.
