[Winona Online Democracy]

The gist of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press article, if anyone didn't read it, was that a team of award winning designers had gone to great effort to make their upscale, "all the pleasures of rural life with the convenience of a nearby city" fit in harmoniously with the surrounding countryside. But their vision for the houses and the numerous restrictive covenants were likely to be too 'artsy' for a conservative market segment that would be more interested in typical large-lot McMansions.

I found that the project has a web site:  http://www.mayowoodlands.com

While the pending Winona expansion is said to meet a need for upscale housing in Winona, I'd be surprised if we have a market for a Mayo Woodlands type of project. I'm offering this link more in the spirit seeing how the other half (other 1/2 of 1%?) lives.

About the Wilson township development: From articles in the Winona Post, it looks like regulations dealing with trout stream water quality might severely restrict the scope of the project. Or is that wishful thinking? Building site temporary plastic barrier fences for runoff control don't always work. A developer would certainly claim that his crews would be careful. But although he would probably be sincere, how could he supervise every tradesman and deliveryman that would be visiting the sites? At the risk of offending construction workers (as well as the engineers in a previous posting) they tend to favor big-wheel 4WD trucks and like to show off their mud bogging capability.
