To all, but especially to Terry Angst:
If a 2 part referendum were to be placed before the voters, what do you envision the parts as being?
From my own perspective, I believe that the high school is long, long overdue for major renovation, and reinvestiment, particularly in the libarary (include staffing) and in the science labs. I've heard that there is a strong need for updating of other equipment/space there, as well. And of course, we all know that SOFA has undertaken a major renovation fund raising project for the auditorium.
In addition, I believe that the school district needs additional operating funds. As it stands now, virtually every dollar of income the district receives is on a per pupil basis. Unfortunately, if we lose even a modest number of students, perhaps 50, we stand to lose enormous amounts of funding, without necessarily being able to reduce our expenditures at all.
I've lived in Winona for 16 years. It seems to me that what is truly keeping this community from real greatness is its lack of will to adequately support public education. Winona's children are as bright, as talented, as hard working and generous of heart as any in the world.
I don't understand why we, as a community, are unwilling to provide the necessary education to ensure the future of these children and of our own community.
Terri Hyle
