I want to echo Vicki's sentiments regarding the support of the Shakspeare Fest. Thanks to the folks at the city for making this commitment--City Employees, Council Members and the Port Authority should all be congratulated for taking this risk! I know the investment will pay off!

I clicked on the link that John Finn provided (http://www.pps.org/) for the Project for Public Spaces. This site provides valuable information about planning for a high quality of life in areas such as our downtown. In a section entitled 20 of the Best Neighborhoods in North America, downtown Northfield, MN ranks 17th. There is much worth reading at this site and I thank John for alerting us to it!
I hope that whoever is hired to help plan a better Winona will consider some of the ideas at this site. In addition, I want to thank the city council for voting to donate money to the Shakespeare Festival. This is a treasure that we cannot afford to lose. It is an example of long term planning that will help Winona prosper. I also hope that more time, effort, and money will be spent to help develop our downtown, save and preserve historic property (like the old Middle School) and improve public institutions such as our public library that is desperate for more space. I think this should be our current focus.
Merry Christmas to all! Vicki Englich
