In my opinon anyone who depends on SS as their only form of income upon retirement is not being realistic.
I  certainly don't have all the answers, but being self employed makes one realize that savings is a must for retirement.  We have no 401K to fall back on. No pension funds.
Speaking of which I have a friend in Detroit who works at Ford. Her husband works at Ford too in the security department. The security department was given their 2 week notice that Ford is now going to use Rent a Cop.  Any pensions that were due these people are no longer.
Doesn't sound fair, doesn't sound right but that is what I was told.
Now this family and many others have to wonder how they are going to be able to afford to retire.....

Keep away from small people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Social security is not in need of radical reform.  Merely extending the amount paid in to exceed the present $89,000 cap will solve most social security problems.  If you want to solve the medicare and medicaid problems, it is another story and is in need of radical reform.  Individual accounts will not solve any of the above problems.  Individual accounts can be better handled thru our present 401K and other self managed savings accounts.
