[Winona Online Democracy] I read most of a book entitled "Nickel and Dimed" this weekend that is about an author who joins the working poor to write the book. She took jobs in Florida, Maine, and Minneapolis such as house cleaning, waitressing, and Walmart. The big thing that I got out of the book is how difficult finding affordable housing is. The high gas prices have to be a killer on people who work these jobs in larger cities because normally they must drive for at least an half hour to get to housing they can almost afford.
