As the parent of a Kindergartener I agree with all day everyday, but I think
something may be rotten in Whoville. You see, at "12 on Tuesday" we were told
that the state has always funded half day Kindergarten (we knew that)--and WAPS
has always footed the bill for the "other" half of the day.
However, EVERY parent had the right to remove their child at the end of the
half day-------meaning core curriculum could only be taught in the mornings.
WAPS may have been "sneaking" a little more of that in here and there, but
overall--according to the state, curriculum was only funded in the morning.

So really, right now I am paying for all day everyday Kindergarten, but I do
not kid myself---the curriculum has merely changed to Tuesday/Thursday...and
not half days. It is the same curriculum that was offered last year on state
funded half days. Nothing in the curriculum has changed.

I too encourage people to vote--it is the fairest way to determine the publics'
opinion. I just hope the district will release hard core numbers in black and
white sometime soon (what they have, what they need, and where the $ will
go)---and doing it before November would be advantageous.

for those interested -- here is a report from Ohio on all day versus half
day Kindergarten.

I got this from one of the parents working on the referendum education
effort.
