[Winona Online Democracy] Yes Max Conrad is a good thing for the very limit few that use it, but is it a good thing for land-locked Winona? The airport is prime potential site for industrial development. The airport will never again support commercial air service. Would it pay to have TSA service for the handful on customers that might use the airport? Compare the actual travel time from the Winona Holiday Inn to either the LaCrosse airport or Max Conrad field. At most one stop light to LaCrosse but how many to Max Conrad? With reasonable air service less than 30 miles away at LSE, 50 miles away at RST, and 110 miles away at MSP we can't reasonably expect any bankrupt or nearly bankrupt airline to even consider Winona. Does any current or potential Winona business really rely on Max Conrad? Both LSE & RST have far superior air traffic control & RST has international customs. In bad weather, what commercial pilot would choose Max Conrad over LSE? The City of Winona has valuable asset currently being marginally used as an airport. I think there are better uses for that land!

Protect Max Conrad. The comfort of taking off and landing in the realtive calm of our little airport nestled between the bluffs might be hard to imagine but the thought of coming and going in the winds on the top of the bluff just scares the wonderlust right out of me. We've got a good thing down there. Let's not mess with it.
