[Winona Online Democracy]
I'm upset that a citizen of Winona feels that the police do little or nothing about people who drive past red signals. I am a Winona police officer, and my primary responsibility is traffic enforcement. I am all for promoting safety on the roads, and anyone who knows me well, will tell you that I have no tolerance for motorists who "push" red lights.... Red Light accidents are extremely dangerous, and are so preventable. I'm sure many people have seen me "monitoring" red light and stop sign intersections. I watch! Safety is extremely important, and maybe you may have not observed me watching intersections, but maybe you have watched motorists stopped by police on busy streets near intersections controlled by Stop and Go Lights. Either way, I hope the motoring public can make the connection....I'm serious about red lights, and I have always been so... The summer driving season is fast approaching, and safety enforcement of traffic rules is getting stepped up to minimize the potential of accidents all over the country. I have no tolerance for motorists who ignore red signals, because I have seen the damage/injuries which result. I was at that accident on 5th and Huff, and yes, that man was injured, but I have witnessed much worse. How long is a red signal anyway? Maybe 35-45 seconds? _______________________________________________ This message was posted to Winona Online Democracy All messages must be signed by the senders actual name.
