Very good question.
We are currently working hard to profile and optimize winpcap, so we hope to
release detailed results and a more efficient driver in the next months.
The performance of WinPcap under the different WinNTx systems is
approxiamtely the same, because the packet drivers share the same code and
the underlying OSes are very similar. Linux on the other side has lower
performance, because its kernel architecture is less evolute. If you are
interested in performance under Unix, I suggest a BSD OS, whose BPF shows
good results. It was used as reference when developing our system, so the
performance are comparable with winpcap 2.3.

Subject: [WinPcap-users] packet capture efficiency

hi
can you compare the packet capture efficiency of libpcap(or
winpcap)working under Linux ,Win2k server ,Win2k Pro,WinNt4
and Win XP?
for example ,when the network load is 148000pps, which operation
system can capture more packets ?
