Ok, I will try to find a cable to make some tests.

Yes, but obviously the user application will have to ba able to handle and
decode that protocol.
I suspect however that firewire is exported to the protocols as ethernet
through an intermediate driver. This is a commonly adopted choiche and could
be the cause of the problems you notice.
