Probably, a new driver for your network card is installed during this
update, and the driver doesn't allow promiscous mode anymore...

Subject: [WinPcap-users] Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 breaks WinPCap

I recently did Windows Update runs on my set of Windows 2000 laptops
(before-hand at Service Pack 2). There were a lot of updates
involved, the biggest of which were IE 6, Service Pack 1, and Windows
2000 Service Pack 3.

Ethereal and WinPCap still work for me, but the packets captured are
only the ones destined for the machine running winpcap, none of the
outbound packets are showing up.

It both broke existing winpcap installs new winpcap installs on those
boxes (ones that didn't have it before) have the same symptom.

Both Ethereal and WinDump show the symptom, so it seems to be WinPCap.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled existing ones, and both that and new
installs (winpcap had never been installed) show the same problem.

Has anyone else seen this? I didn't see it in the FAQ, so I'm not
sure if it's a known issue already or not.

Thanks!
