I have an app that uses winpcap 3.0 and about 20,000 people who have
installed it over the last few weeks. I've gotten a handful of users
who have reported an error indicating winpcap isn't finding any devices
to open on their system.
I've tried to track down what the issue is with several users, having
them completely uninstall pcap 3.0 (I launch the pcap 3.0 silent
installer as part of my install), reboot, check for older winpcap
installations and remove those also and reboot then reinstall 3.0 from
the official pcap site and reboot again. This doesn't seem to resolve
the issue for most people. Users all seem to be running XP.
We wrote a little pcap test program that just dumped the Windows adapter
list and also dumped the list of pcap adapters found, and there seemed
to be regular ethernet cards in the systems that should be compatible
but no winpcap adapters were listed.
Anyone have some more ideas for what this problem is or additional steps
to give users to further identify the problem?
