What you're trying to do is called NAT (Network Address Translation) and
at the very least, you've got to recompute the IP header checksum.

I recommend you pick up Doug Comer's book on networking, "Internetworking 
With TCP/IP Volume 1: Principles Protocols, and Architecture, 4th edition, 
2000. ISBN 0-13-018380-6"  It's usually available used on Amazon for under
$20.
