We have a cisco AP infrastructure with 802.1x on top. There are many
students with the Truemobile cards and there have been no problems.

I just got an x300 with the built in TrueMobile 1400 card and it works
great.

We have seen this also on a dell laptop we got for our director.
Could
not figure it out and put in an Enterasys card and have not had a
problem since. Obviously it would be nicer to use the built in
wireless
but for someone who does ot want to give up their machine for more
than
5 min we did not have much of a choice.

Someone else I know got some dells for his company and also had
similar
problems.

Dell support from of no help.

Subject: Connectivity problems

I hope this is an appropriate place to post this...if not, my
apologies
in
advance.

We have not yet deployed wireless at our law school but are in the
planning
stages. I had a WAP here last week to test (a Cisco 1200 series, but I
think
it's irrelevant). A student with a Dell TrueMobile 1400 WLAN (a/b/g)
integrated card tells me he is unable to stay connected for more than
about
15 minutes at a time. This is true no matter where he goes - a couple
locations on campus have wireless installed, with different WAP
vendors,
plus he has wireless at home, and he drops after 15 minutes or so in
each. I
noticed this on my laptop as well and coincidently, we have the exact
same
system with the same card.

He contacted Dell support who had him download a newer driver. No
difference
in behavior.

Anyone know what's wrong and more importantly, is this something I
should be
aware of before we move forward next summer?

Thanks,
Cyndi

We have had the same problems with the Dell tri mode cards. I don't
know if there is anything that can be done - consider it's the "first"
release of these devices and the quality is probably not so good.

I don't know if there is a connection, but the TrueMobile 1150 miniPCI
=
cards
in many Dell laptops have shown similar behavior. There is quite a bit
=
of
discussion on this in the Dell Forums. You might try this thread (I =
think it
will work).

I was able to solve my problems through access point firmware
upgrades,
driver updates, and registry settings.
