Since so many in Higher Ed seem to be enamored with Vivato this days, I thought passing along this would be of interest.

Vivato Cuts Again
10.27.03

Troubled wireless LAN switch startup Vivato Inc. has laid off another 22 workers.

Two thirds of the positions are at the firm's engineering center in Spokane, Wash., according to local paper, The Spokesman-Review, the rest at the firm's headquarters in San Francisco.

A spokesperson for Vivato confirmed the cuts and said that the company now has about 77 employees on its books.

This is the second round of layoffs for the struggling startup. In August, the firm laid off between 10 and 14 workers but said it planned to take more sales and marketing staff aboard (see Vivato: Shaken & Stirred Up ).

Earlier this month, the firm confirmed that original CEO Ken Biba had stepped down (see Vivato CEO Steps Down). Don Stalter is currently acting CEO, and the board is expected to appoint a permanent replacement within the next few weeks.

Vivato scored $44.5 million in a third round of funding in June (see Vivato Raises $44.5M). The changes at the company since then have been driven by the investors on the board.
