Matt:

No, it does not revert the whole AP to 'b' mode, but essentially the airwaves need to run in 'compatibility mode', so to speak, so that the b clients can figure out when to talk between the g clients.  This cuts speeds down from 22-24 Mbps in a pure g environment, to about 8 Mbps, in a mixed b/g environment.

Hi All,

I was hoping someone could clear something up. When an 802.11g Access Point
(for example, Avaya) has an 802.11b client talking to it, does that
effectively revert the access point from "g" to a "b" because of the "b"
client?

Thanks

Matt
