I just recently joined this list and Philippe's note made my face turn a little red since I cover WLAN technology for Network Computing, where this case-study appeared. In fairness to Kelly Higgins (the article's author), who is an experienced technical journalist, it's pretty common for generalists to confuse 802.1x with 802.11x. We normally have a content expert tech-read all of our pieces, but this one never got to me.
I'm currently working on a Wi-Fi Special Report for our May 27 issue. I'm taking a fairly broad look at the "state of Wi-Fi," looking at standards and technology trends, and analyzing a reader survey. A companion feature looks at best-practices, which includes several Universities. Unfortunately, the way the process works is that we solicit nominees from the vendors, so unless your wireless vendor chose to nominate your site, you weren't considered. I welcome input from this group on wireless-related issues. There's no question that higher education is one of the hottest markets for WLANs and like in the early days of the Internet, you guys are addressing fundamental issues that will enable this technology to grow beyond vertical markets. I also welcome ideas for article submissions, both for Network Computing as well as Mobile Pipeline, which is a companion portal web site that focuses on wireless issues. We're particularly interested in hands-on stuff.
