Our wireless network infrastructure is predominately Cisco and HP wireless access points. However, our user (even faculty and staff) tend to use less wireless cards such as Linksys, DLink, etc... Our SSIDs are not broadcast and we have multiple SSIDs so that proper users can be routed to the proper VLANs, security, etc...
Our main problem is with hopping. We have students and even those who live in houses nearby installing there on wireless access points. Most, if not all, of these rogue access points broadcast their SSID and are wide open. Windows, especially, seems to prefer broadcast SSIDs. As a result, we are constantly having issues with user computers moving to other access points, even these less powerful access points, and therefore creating connectivity issues for users. The users don't understand the issues. They just say, "this wireless stuff is awful". Is anyone out there got a solution to lock down a wireless computer to a specific access point?
