Novell just posted a document on using 802.1X with Novell's 32-bit client.

What's also interesting is that it seems that you need to set up Samba to support machine-based authentication. I'm guessing that if you don't use/need machine-based authentication, such as when you log in locally to the desktop, you can just use OES and FreeRADIUS against LDAP.
