Hello, As we're preparing to roll out wireless service across our campus, I'd like to ask a couple of questions to folks about your setups... As a bit of a preface to our situation, we're currently using Cisco Clean Access for authentication and policy management in housing and wireless hotspot segments of campus, and are beginning to roll out HP radioport 230 thin APs supporting both the a and b/g bands.
Our questions are: 1. What are people doing for encryption in housing, classroom, and publicly accessible areas, and how are the appropriate keys being shared? 2. What are your thoughts on reserving one side of the radio (the A band) for faculty and staff use, and leaving the B/G side open for any campus constituents as a way to reserve bandwidth for official campus use? 3. When looking to push WAN services campus wide, how much do you segment WLans with different SSIDs and policies (we currently have just over 20 production VLans, and I was planning to use a total of five wireless vlans/SSIDs to mirror appropriate segmentation and policy implementations)? Thoughts?
