Do you have a captive portal that uses SSL? We had an issue with Vista
and IE7 when redirected to the captive portal using HTTPS. IE7 would
not allow the viewing of the page and would not put up an error of any kind.
You can ID this problem by using firefox on vista and seeing if your
captive portal comes up. We have this issue even though our certificate
is IPSCA signed cert. and should work fine. Here are the text based
instructions we gave our students to help them work through the issue.
Description of problem:
Vista Users experience trouble connecting to Wireless Gateway. The IE7
browser appears to hang when trying to connect to the wireless gateway.
Workaround for Vista - Internet Explorer 7 issue:
Ensure that your wireless network adapter is on and connected to the
network. This problem only affects Vista computers trying to connect to
the Wireless Network through IE7. This problem can be addressed by using
an alternate browser to IE7 such as Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc. or by
making the following change to your IE7 settings.
Open IE7 - If you are not redirected to the login page for the network,
then you probably have this problem.
1. Open the Tools menu (Alt + T if you don't see the menu) and select
"Internet Options..."
2. Select the "Advanced" tab and scroll down to the "Security" section
3. Uncheck the box next to "Check for server certificate revocation*"
4. Click Apply, then OK. Close and re-open Internet Explorer. The
authentication page will now appear properly.

We are experiencing an intermittent problem with Vista clients
connecting to our wireless network. The client PCs will associate
with the AP, and obtain an IP address from our DHCP server. However
they are unable to view web sites because they appear to be unable to
communicate with the network. These same clients are said to work
normally when connected to other wireless networks. Our APs are Cisco
1231 running IOS version 12.3(7). Has anybody experienced a similar
problem?
