Jason,

There are several ways to do this. First off, have you decided on a vendor yet? Yes there are standards out there that will be able to suit your needs. For encryption I would recommend WPA2/AES. The trick for you would be the authentication portion of the connection process. Do you treat your two user populations (faculty/staff & students) differently? In other words, do they authenticate to a different authentication mechanism or is everyone treated the same as far as authentication goes?

If you'd like, please feel free to address an email directly to me and I can at least explain to you how we do it at Columbia University Health Sciences Campus/New York Presbyterian Hospital. But right now it seems to me like you have many options to chose from, none of which are right or wrong.

Thanks.

All,

I have a few questions on how you design/deploy wireless on your campus
network.

Do you use encryption? If so, how do you handle encryption between the
client & the WAP?

Do you have one wireless network, or separate wireless networks, one for
students and one for faculty/staff?

Finally, if you allow roaming, how do you accomplish this while limiting
the WAP broadcast traffic?

Thanks.
