Donald, If you've just deployed the 2710 you may want to discuss trading it back to Cisco for the new MSE (Mobility Services Engine). The MSE has several different add-on software options including the new "Context-aware" feature. The MSE with the context-aware module is a super-set of the 2710 location appliance. Additionally, it can track up to 18,000 devices (client/tag) where the 2710 is much more limited.
Once you have the MSE, something like AeroScout Mobile View can use the MSE data to track systems. We're about to begin deployment of a new wireless network with MSE and plan to use it for tracking/location of assets including our AV carts, cameras, etc. Additionally, for our classrooms, we'll be tagging LCD projectors so we know when they decide to go on a walkabout. best, Jeff Jeffrey D Sessler Interim Director Information Technology Scripps College >>> Donald Roller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 06/11/08 2:16 PM >>> We are interested in purchasing a WiFi based RFID equipment location and tracking system in the hospital component of our university and would be interested in feedback from anyone who has experience with such an installation. We are an academic medical center with a 350 bed hospital plus four colleges. We have recently deployed a Cisco LWAPP based wireless network with a Cisco 2710 location engine and designed our 2.4 GHz RF coverage with location services in mind. Every wireless device in the hospital building can be seen by at least three access points. Our goal is to be able to locate and track medical equipment (IV Pumps, beds, wheelchairs, portable monitors, etc.) and create an interface into our equipment maintenance tracking system. Any experience with this type of system would be welcome. Thanks, Don Roller - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Donald R.
