We have our infrastructure facilities group pull the cable and install the
access point. Since we use a Trapeze controller, the ap phones home where we
can then configure it.

For the initial installation of our wireless network, we (Network Group)
designed the locations and assigned them to the telecom group. The Telecom
group outsources the data pulls with a contractor that pulled them to our
specific location. We then followed behind them and installed each AP
ourselves.

For various new installations for building refurbishments and new construction,
we interview the customer for usages requirements and then design a wireless
network. We then add the APs to the CAD drawings and the Telecom group
contracts these in much the same manner. I then hold a training session for
the contractors on the physical installation of the APs and Antenna (usually
ceiling mount) and once I am comfortable with their abilities, they install the
APs with the cable pulls.

We are one of the largest customers the cable contractors have, and they spend
a great amount of time on our campus. Usually the cable pulls are complete
before the equipment arrives, so we make sure the contractors know they will
have to come back and install the APs. This process usually takes 2 weeks. If
the equipment is already on campus, we can usually expect the installation to
take less than a week.

I'm curious as to how you all out there handle the actual physical
installation of APs in your environments. Do you handle that within the
same team that manages the wireless network or is it a separate group
that installs the equipment? How do you go about having the data jacks
installed? Just as an estimation, approximately how long does it take to
have an AP installed?

For buildings that are still in the planning phase, do you design the AP
locations into the building based on CAD drawings ahead of time? Or do
you perform an on-site survey after the building is open and then
proceed with installation?

Any and all comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
