With regards to large numbers of clients in one room - this is high client density. Two things that you can do to controll cell size - reduce power - sounds like it is done. Eliminate all of the slowest rates available on the AP - 1 mb has the maximum usable distance - and 11 mb the shortest. Eliminating all of the B rates will also improve the overall duty cycle of RF in the environment by eliminating cts to self frames. Reducing the supported rates will also improve the duty cycle (channel utilizatiuon) by forcing higher speeds and eliminating the low speed beacons. This reduces overhead and will also prevent clients from rate shifting down when there are collisions- which happens a lot in high density environments.
