You can still apply for more IPv4 addresses. We applied for some
additional v4 space this year and we got it. We used to PAT at our
border firewall, but logging and tracking DMCA complaints was a pain,
not impossible, just a pain. In addition, by adding NAT you are adding
another point of failure in your infrastructure. That got us a couple of
times when our older firewall used to crash every other month. If you
got equipment that can reliably handle NAT, then you don't have to worry
about that.

I'll say that we are heavily pushing for IPv6. In fact, we support it
throughout our campus (we run dual stack), but until we see more
adoption, we'll have to still rely on IPv4.

Subject: [WIRELESS-LAN] Public IP to nat/pat

We have recently deployed wireless in all are residence halls and are in
the process of completing a ubiquitous wireless deployment across our
entire campus. We currently use public ips for the wireless address
space to serve client devices. We are concerned that we will eventually
run out of usable ips for client use in the near future, and therefore
have begun looking at moving to nat/pat environment. I would like to
hear from folks who have done this and get feedback about any issues
that they saw during/after this transition, and how they handled them.
(DMCA, gaming, etc.) I have searched the forum and found these posts,
but I would like to get a updated thread going in case any new issues
have arose since these posts.
