Everyone: First, I'd like to thank NERCOMP, EDUCAUSE, Pete et al from the NETMAN listserv and Philippe from here for giving me the opportunity to lead the CG meeting at the NorthEast Regional Conference. The conference had ~600-650 attendees. There were 12 in the CG meeting (billed as a "NETMAN" meeting, but it was actually a combined NETMAN/Wireless CG meeting). Other than myself, no one was a member of this list or the NETMAN list. Hopefully my marketing skills were good enough to get them to join.
Wireless technology is still an issue -- especially when it comes to implementation in residence halls. Coverage vs Density; Density vs Interference; Inconsistencies in drivers; 2.4 vs 5.0... I did talk a little bit about EDUROAM. In the EDUCause session earlier in the day, the EDUCAUSE representative did mention that federated logins is (are?) something they are taking a closer look at. If we had 2 hours, instead of 50 minutes, I'm sure the list would be much longer. The conversation did continue in the hallway for another 45 minutes, so the need for these sessions (and longer time periods!) is pretty clear. Again, thanks to everyone for getting this going and giving me the opportunity to try my hand at presenting/moderating. Hopefully, these topics will continue to be discussed on the lists. -Brian Helman (I'll be x-posting something like this on the netman list as well) ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Constituent Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/. ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Constituent Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/. ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Constituent Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/.
