That's true, but I managed to slap a pair up in the lab across about 2 meters.  
Turned the RX gain to 'low' and they linked up.  For whatever reason, I 
couldn't get the firmware to let me turn down the transmit power (running a 
beta version that's supposed to resolve a few issues).  Threw a couple of 
chairs in between just to give them a little extra attenuation.  They were 
negotiation between 100Mbps and 500Mbps, highly variable.  Still, it was solid 
enough that I could generally use in-band management to manage the 'far' end of 
the link.

I'm sure you can make the 50m link work.

I'll be installing it over a 1km link tomorrow.  I was quite pleased with how 
pain-free they were to set up.  Far cry from our LMDS gear, both in ease of 
configuration and cost.  I expect it to be significantly less work to install, 
too, though I'll have to confirm that on the rooftops tomorrow.
