Christina,
We currently have 5508/wism2's. I have no experience with the 5760
but I have played with the 3850. The 3850's are a completely different
design. The biggest issue is you need to be replacing all your switches
with new 3850's for them to make sense. The 5508/wism2's tunnel
everything back to a central location so it will work over any switch
infrastructure. The tunneling back is also handy depending on your
design goal, iE you want to dump everything behind a firewall. The 3850
is really a edge switch replacement designed to terminate traffic at the
edge switch. So your design is really different. Also I have played
with the 3850 and it had issues with webauth pages and such. It seemed
to do 802.1x ok though. I am thinking about the 3850 in new buildings
where I can have all switches be 3850. But at last check it did not
support everything I needed (web_auth stuff) but I imagine it is
coming. It really depends on your design and what switches you have.

All,
I am trying to put together a large purchase. Cisco has some nice
bundles but we are trying to determine if they are right for us. A big
issue is the divergent paths Cisco is taking on wireless. Should we
invest in a pair of 5508 which may be good for a 3-4 years? Or, should
we jump into the Converged world of 3850s and 5760s? What will I be
losing by moving off of the 5508/WiSM2s?
I have read that clients cannot seamlessly roam between APs on different
platforms. Is that still true? We have a layer 2 design so clients
will be keeping their IP addresses. But, what happens to the 802.1X
authentication? If clients have to re-authenticate as they move from
AP-converged to AP-AireOS, that can be a problem for the areas where the
two overlap.
Thank you for your help,
