1. Campus coverage – all, admin, resent and percentage
- We have a wireless presence in every building (and we are moving
toward 100% coverage); all campuses
- In academic/admin buildings, classroom coverage was priority; now we
are covering academic offices as requested.
- Residential buildings have 100% coverage; now we are adding access
points for density and the increased number of byod devices on campus.
2. Technology deployed – ag, agn, ac & percentage
- Currently we have deployed the Aerohive AP330 (3x3 802.11n) internally
across campus exclusively. We have one AP170 (2x2 802.11n) scheduled to be
installed in our outdoor quad area soon.
- We are considering adopting their newer AP230 (3x3 802.11ac/n) going
forward.
3. density
- Depends on location and use case.
4. byod support
- University owned and managed devices live on the production network.
All personally owned and non-managed devices live on the student network.
All devices that access either the production or student network whether
wired or wireless require registration with our Netreg system.
We also have a 'Functional Wireless Policy' that describes what types of
devices we don't allow on the wireless (rogue access points, ad hoc devices,
and 'other' devices), the policy associated with those devices, and what we
do to mitigate. We do allow gaming consoles on the network, but we don't
provide support for them other than knowledge base articles. Currently all
access points in the residence halls are in the hallways, but we are
working toward moving access points to the rooms in a single dorm as a test
to prove that it's worth the effort and cost.
