Debian 7 is about to go end of life. So start with Debian 8 jessie. FreeRADIUS in Debian is hideously out of date. Even in jessie it's versin 2.2 which is end-of-life. But building your own Debian packages is straightforward - see http://wiki.freeradius.org/building/Build#building-packages_building-debian-packages Use the latest version 3.0 FreeRADIUS (3.0.11 as of right now).
