tftp is similar to ftp but it runs over UDP rather than TCP.  It is a very lightweight client so it is popular on networking products for bootrom/firmware/image/configuration uploads and downloads.  You need to have a tftp daemon/server running on your Mac for the Linksys box to download the firmware from.  Interestingly enough I found one on an old cabletron web server.  Not sure if it works but it is worth a shot.
