hey guys

Just wanted to ask if anyone knows any solutions for the poor performance/range im
experiencing between my Intel 2011 AP (Symbol Chipset) and my Powerbook with an
airport card. I get VERY poor performance/distance on the powerbook (less than 50ft
even with virtual line of site). The Powerbook doesnt even show up when i use the
'Signal Quality Tester' software on the admin interface of the AP. My other laptops
using Intel or Lucent cards seem to have MUCH better range (i.e 100ft +) and show up
strong in the AP Signal monitor.

Anyone have any insights? I already know that the titanium powerbooks have very poor
range due to the metal casing, but i think this might be something else (i.e
configuration or compatibility issues). I'm able to use the powerbook in places that
have airport base stations without as much problem. Also, the fact that the Intel AP
signal test utility does not detect any signal from the apple is troubling
(especially since im able to connect to the net with it AS im running the signal test).

Some notes:
  - airport card firmware and drivers are the latest as supplied by apple
  - intel AP firmware is up to date
  - short preamble is disabled
  - no wep
  - all other settings on the AP are default
  - the Apple is able to ping/browse the net when i run the signal tests.

Thanks All
