You need a card with an external antenna .
must have line of sight , use a Yagi or Patch antenna.
Look at hyperlinx.com
If you cant see the starbucks then forget it.

Interesting , I was doing a wireless install in San Fran last week, I did a
site survey at the Client site and had not less than 7 wireless systems show
up on the Survey screen all of them had sufficient signal strengtyh to
participate.

No special antennas at all.
First step get a card and see who is home.

Subject: [BAWUG] Bridging 802.11 networks

I have 4 starbucks within a 1500 Radius around my
apartment (which is on top of a Hill (SF)). Pathetic
but I'm looking to tap into their network from Home.
How may I use a Linksys WAP11 access point (AP) (or
other; open to recomendation) to bridge to the
"Starbucks commercial network"? I also think I would
need a High Gain antenna (most likley Roof top
mounted) and brought down to my apartment. any
help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
