I have experienced that too, with Netgear.

Netgear has a beta version of a new driver, that can work with Windows XP:

There are still problems with it, but you can have a connection. We have the
MA101
connected to a Linksys WAP11.

I our setup the betadriver - used in Windows XP - disconnects every 60
seconds and
reconnects 2-3 seconds later. Netgear have told us that it might help if we
disable the
WEP setup in Windows XP and set the WEP from the Netgear configuration
utility.
We have not tested that yet.
