A friend of mine operates a small tea house (that's right, tea, not
coffee...) in Atlanta and I volunteered to set up a 802.11b wireless network
for him. The plan is free internet access = more customers buying tea. He
already had DSL service and was stuck with an Alcatel SpeedTouch USB modem,
so my only choice was to plug it into a DrayTech Vigor 2200USB router with
4-port switch. So, now we have the connection shared, and I need to chose a
wireless AP, and I need to make sure that no one can get to his PC's hard
drive and create mayhem. I'm hoping to get an AP recommendation and security
recommendations. I tested the router by cable connecting to my notebook. I
had to enable the "guest " account (he is running Win2000 Pro) on his PC and
change the domain name on mine to match his and I was surfing away. What do
I need to do ensure that the guest account has no privileges to let someone
do bad things to his PC? Can multiple users connect concurrently all using
"guest" as their user ID? I have changed his admin PW to something rather
cryptic, and I plan to add a user account for him to use during normal
operation so that he is not logged in as administrator while others are
there. Is that necessary? His hard drive is not shared. We're thinking about
having a printer available for people to use as well; anyone recommend an AP
with a print server port or a really cheap network printer w/ethernet
connection? I would like to hear any additional input anyone would like to
share also.
Thanks!
