Here's an idea: float your wireless access point. Apparently in Arizona
they've text messaged using weather balloons. Obviously a WAP at 100,000 feet
wouldn't do much good to anybody, but balloning is sort of a neat
idea...Perhaps at amusment parks, or national, state, or local parks they
could put up balloons? Perhaps at Football games, or events like Wimbledon
and the PGA Tour? Many sporting events and facilities already have goodyear
blimps and such floating around. I dont' think anybody would mind a BAWUG or
boingo blimp floating around Pac Bell Park on summer afternoons. Plus it'd be
great advertising.

I seem to remember hearing something on NPR last year about testing flying a
plane around large metro areas and using some method to transfer large amounts
of data around a city. Also I seem to remember recently some discussion of
the US military putting blimps over large metro areas to serve as permanent
radar instalations. Floating objects is apparently the new thing.

Perhaps it would look a bit silly to have balloons floating every other street
corner downtown but it would work well in city parks and other open areas.
