Don't forget about 802.11g, eventually all  products
will be 802.11a/b/g but that may take some time...
If you plan too far ahead you'll go crazy! :-) Just go
for whatever suits your current needs and it's not too
expensive...

Even if you deploy a 802.11a only network, future
wireless cards will be compatible with it because
they will probably support a large subset, at
least, of the 802.11 protocols...

This is only my personal opinion, but I'm hoping it to
be of some help! ;-)
