The announcement we have all been waiting for is here! Yes, BAWUG will be having another monthly meeting this week in San Francisco. Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 24th.

Meeting Topic: Wireless LAN Security, presented by Cliff Skolnick (and a followup discussions on security and open access points)
Meeting Time: 10/24, 7pm
Meeting Location: The EFF office in San Francisco (454 Shotwell St.)
What to Bring: We are looking for a LCD projector, if anyone has one please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also if you have a folding chair you may want to bring it as there are only limited chairs available.

There will be a short 30-45 minute overview of the current state of 802.11 security, followed by a discussion. The following topics will be covered:

Common WLAN configurations
Access, Authentication, and Accounting methods
Beacons, MAC address, Shared Key, WEP, 802.11x, LEAP
Security data from common attacks
Man in the middle, Forging, Rouge AP, etc.
Securing your data
IPSEC, VPNs, Tunneling Protocols (ssh)
Open AP security Issues

And please bring your questions and solutions as hopefully a good portion of time will be interactive exchange of ideas.
