Hi, This is somewhat of an advertisement, but I expect it might be helpful to some members of this list.
Network Chemistry is running a public beta of the WSP100 Remote 802.11b Sensor. The WSP100 is an 802.11b sniffer which will receive all 802.11b packets (including management packets and error packets) and forward them over Ethernet to a Windows PC for analysis. During the beta period the WSP100 hardware and software are only $199. This is a tenth of the cost of other 802.11 sniffing solutions and doesn't require a dedicated laptop. What would someone use a wireless sniffer for? * If you are an engineer developing 802.11b products a packet sniffer is indispensible. * A system administrator troubleshooting network problems will often use a wired packet sniffer to see the traffic on the network and see where the problem is. You can use a WSP100 to do the same for a wireless network. * If you are configuring new networks are want to be 100% sure that your configuration has worked: SSID is off in beacons, beacon interval is correct, WEP is turned on, etc. For more information, have a look at: www.networkchemistry.com Regards, Chris Waters. -- general wireless list, a bawug thing <http://www.bawug.org/> [un]subscribe: http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless
