Antennas are a trade-off, too.  Higher-gain dishes require sturdy
mounts so they won't wiggle in the wind.  As for polluting the 
spectrum, I thought that was part of the spec, so remote stations
could hear each other and choose to broadcast when others weren't.  :-)
High-gain makes the most sense on point-to-point links, of course.
