Hey All WiFi Broadband Lovers,

I just found a magazine that addresses these issues and is a fun read. Sure
it is probably behind us timewise, but still good info on WiFi.

It is called "Wireless Business and Technology" and is on newstands. I got
mine at Fryes in Palo Alto. No I don't work for the magazine and to comply
with Reg. Full Disclosure laws "I don't own any of the stock..." :-)

Quick question: Are subsequent 802.11x protocols downward compatible with
802.11b, a, etc...?

Great holidays everyone!

Guy

How long before we start seeing triple standard a/b/g NICs and APs? I
suspect those are the products we really want. Or will g win out and a/b
just fade away? (remembering that all g products should interop with b
products)

Remember that 802.11a operates in the 5 GHz band which is a lot less
crowded than the 2.4 GHz one. Not to say that it is open and useable in all
countries, though :-(

Jacques.

Bryan,

I'd be interested to know what success you find with the BEFW11S4 (WLAN)
<----> WET11 <--x--> BEFW11S4 (WAN) configuration. I had the same situation
with my neighbor. The remote donor is a BEFW11S4, the client is a WET11, and
the local client is a BEFW11S4. For some reason it didn't work to connect
the WET11 to the WAN port of the local BEFW11S4. It worked fine connecting
the WET11 to a LAN port of the local BEFW11S4, though it (obviously) does
not separate the two networks.

Subject: [BAWUG] Linksys BEFW11S4 Antenna?

Hi,

I just purchased a Linksys Wireless router for my home. Everything works
great except for one thing: the range of the device. I had a RoamAbout
previously that had an external antenna to boost reception, but I can't seem
to find anything similar for the Linksys. Does anyone know how I can boost
my reception? Is there an antenna that I can purchase? Alternatively, is
there some placement that will optimize my performance? I've looked through
the manual and the linksys site, but they don't have much info there.

Thanks,
Mitch

Telepathy is great stuff...

I *just* got done hunting for these myself.

There are a bunch, and (though they might be pricier) CDW carries many
of them. The one I was looking at was an 8.5 dbi patch, from Proxim,
CDW part number 7024-05. It's about a bill and a half.

Search for "antenna" and scroll to the 802.11 section.

Cheers,

Subject: [BAWUG] outdoor Bridge/AP design question

I'm building a pole-mounted bridge/AP using Matt Peterson's cool outdoor
access point enclosure v1 as a model. I plan to use the antennas
supplied with the WET11 and BEFW11S4 units, and had a key question: what
is the minimum separation I should use between the WET11 and BEFW11S4
antenna sets? Can I mount one set on the bottom of the Pelican 1400
case and the other on the top? Case outside dimensions are 13 3/8" L x
11 5/8" W x 6" D.

If anybody has a better idea, please clue me in.

Vince
