ExtendAir Omni $99.95 (pre-order price) and ExtendAir Direct $149.95
(pre-order price).

Supposedly certified/integrated with Airport Extreme, Apple's first base
station with an antenna port. Connector as yet unknown.

website on omni says:

>In a standard office/home environment ExtendAIR Omni increases the
>effective range of AirPort to approximately a 250 feet.*

and

>the AirPort base station automatically recognizes it when connected and
>switches existing clients to take advantage of the attached antenna.

> ... "approximately 3 times the area" ...

as well as:

>Dr. Bott's ExtendAIR Omni is a +3.5 dBi external antenna that provides
>uniform on-horizon coverage and 2-element spatial diversity.

website on Direct says:

>incorporates proprietary technology to provide the maximum range for
>AirPort clients.

"direct" is +6.5 dBi, directional coverage, 2-element diversity.

>In typical use, ExtendAIR Direct increases the effective range of AirPort
>to approximately 500 feet with a 70 beam width of coverage.*

Jobs was, as usual, heavy on superlatives, throwing out a lot of "first",
"best", and "most" with these sorts of things during the Keynote talk
today. Are there viable alternatives besides hack-it-yourself?
