I have used the WAP 11 with several different antennas (proof of concept etc. )
I now am using one with a Maxrad 8dbi omni. Works well.
One Caviat The WAP11 doesn't start out with much power so use good cable and connectors or there wont be anything to play with.
I have also done some point to point links in bridge mode and in AP mode.
Personally i did one 1500 meter AP mode using a 14db Yagi siimilarly with an 8dbipatch.
All rather loosly setup and I was satisfied when I got 60-80% signal strength using the WUSB-11 adapter.

Subject: [BAWUG] WAP11 Antenna Compatability

Hey everybody,

Im new to this list. I was researching the problem that Hyperlink Tech claims Linksys has with external antennas and came across a thread back in November 2001. A couple people said they were about to use antennas with the WAP11 and would report on it later, but I looked ahead several months and didnt see anything else about it (I might have missed it though).

I own Waco Home Networks in Waco, Texas, and we do a lot of wireless home network installations. Weve been using Linksys APs because theyre inexpensive and have worked well thus far. Were about to put a WLAN in a fairly large, multi-story house, and we want to use WAP11s with antennas.

Can anyone report on experience with using external antennas with WAP11s? Have any recommendations?

If not, is there a similarly priced ($130 or so retail) AP that works better?

Thanks!

-Gus
