Wow, this thread sure has attracted a lot of
responses. I just felt that I had to respond to some
comments that I read from previous posters.
Specifically there was one person who had questions
about getting SBC DSL to work on a Mac running OS X,
and there were some slightly derogatory comments made
about the Mac platform that I should take issue with.

I just set up my SBC DSL connection here at home in
San Jose. It's the standard PPPoE login stuff. I am
running Mac OS X and the whole thing takes less than 5
minutes. I actually did everything over Airport so
that I wouldn't have to change any of my configs.

The whole process for Mac OS X is detailed on a single
page in the included manual, albeit it is difficult to
find with all the other 20 pages of Windoze
configuration instructions. The only information that
is needed is the initial PPPoE auth info
([EMAIL PROTECTED], sbcyahooreg) and then
launch a web browser and the registration pages come
up automatically like a captive portal. After you
register and pick out your own PPPoE login info, then
all that's left to do is to replace the information
typed in before into the Network prefs panel.

Very easy on a Mac. Very fast. No problems. For the
record, it seems that SBC doesn't even include a Mac
CD in the kit. All the software that is needed is
built into OS X by default. I consider myself very
lucky. I have a PC-using friend who installed all the
SBC crap and now he gets something like 10 windows
that pop up whenever he turns on his computer. haha.

Oh, BTW, can everyone to everyone else a favor when
replying to messages...Try not to quote entire
messages -- quote only the parts that are pertinent to
your reply. Thanks!
