Hi all,
I'm a new member, studying in England, my thesis is in WLAN Security Management.
I have an assignment to implement a LAN for a Uni campus. I have persuaded my group to look at a WLAN overlay on a fibre backbone solution. Would this be suitable? For speed and interference I would think 802.11a. However, I am worried about the true throughput achievable. If for example, we use a fibre backbone with Cat5 connecting APs, would it provide campus grade network speeds? Some depts have been specified as 'high bandwidth' and I am considering keeping those wired ethernet (100Mbps), as with the external accounting building (for security reasons).
Please let me know if you think my spec could be better.
The number of users is 2,000, up to ~150 per floor in certain buildings. Cost is not limited.
p.s. I would really appreciate any security guru's to say hello as I have a lot of questions to ask (when I get around to my thesis!). I am currently worrying that my thesis will be completed just as TGi produce their draft. So any knowledgeable tip-offs as to what it may include would be much appreciated, thanks.
