I had watched the listserv mailings back in mid-2001 when I first
installed the original Linksys equipment, but had stopped following the
threads as my initial requirement had been met. Now I really need to
improve the range of the WAP-11 [see specs below].

I have a home LAN based on the original Linksys WAP-11 - which was, I
believe, 802.11b. The unit is nearly 2 years old.
The house and attached office are about 125 feet long and 2-stories
high.

I am waiting for true roll-out of the new IEEE spec and products for it,
rather than at this time risk that a 54G product will prove to be a
problem. However, I have serious reception problems within the house
even on the same floor at a distance of more than 50 to 60 feet. I
would like to install either, or both, an indoor external antenna and
signal booster.

Linksys WAP is original version 1.1 with firmware 1.4h.3 - antenna
diversity feature enabled. PC cards are WPC-11 - the original - from
summer of 2001.

Can someone suggest a reasonable solution to this reception problem -
that does not entail disassembly and soldering.

With regards, glc
